Friends Forever

 There are times in your life when you get to know people who are kindred spirits and will be friends forever.  The Henderson family are just such people.  Steve is the guitar player and lead worship leader at our wonderful church, Dryden Full Gospel in Dryden, Ontario.  It takes us about 2 hours to drive there when we are able to attend on a Sunday morning.  His wife, Kellie is the keyboard player and does an exceptional job.  Their entire family are musicians including Kim, Kellie's identical twin who plays the bass guitar and Steve and Kellie's children.  Tanner plays guitar and drums and sings very well.  Danielle plays keyboard and piano and Jessie plays piano too.  I have had the blessing of playing my cello with their team on Sunday mornings during the worship time.   Joanna too has joined the team as a singer.  I can honestly say that I have experienced some of the most amazing times in God's presence ever while playing with them.  True heartfelt worship is a powerful way to connect heart to heart with our loving Heavenly Father.  

We have known the Henderson family for about 12 years now and so enjoy each of their personalities.  Anytime we are together there is lots of fun and laughter.  We wanted to bless them for their self sacrificial ministry to the Body of Christ, so we invited all of them to come stay at our resort.  This is about the fifth year they have come and it is always such a delight.  

They even pack in a keyboard, guitars and a small sound system so we can play worship music together in the cabin.  It is the highlight of their visit for me.  But we also do lots of swimming, fishing and have a fish fry together.  This year we added a brat roast around a campfire including smores.  That was a real treat for them.  

Since we now live in Grand Marais, MN for six months of the year, we don't get to see them as often and we really miss them.

Family Reunions are Amazing

  Recently, we had the pleasure of all three of our children and all five of our grandchildren staying with us here at camp.  Our son Jonathan is about to retire from the Air Force and now lives in Oklahoma so he had quite a long drive to get here.  They stopped in Knife River first for a few days to spend some time with his wife, Reseth's parents, then came up here for a week.   Even though the weather was a bit on the cooler side with some rain in the mix, we still managed to have plenty of outdoor time to play together. That  was a good thing because there are five active grand children who were eagerly looking forward to participating in a lot of fun activities up here. Sweet Times

Karen Thomas, our cousin from Minneapolis came up for a visit at camp.  She is always such fun and game for anything.  The weather was exceptionally warm, even getting into the 80's for the few days she was there, so we got to do outdoor activities like pontoon boat rides, kayaking, hiking and fishing.   The highlight of her visit, however, was when Joanna, Karen and I went to Dryden to church together on Sunday morning.  We got up at 5:30 am to be able to leave the house at 6:30 am.  It is a two hour drive to get to Dryden and we had to get there an hour and a half before the service started to practice with the worship team.  Once I knew Karen was going to come visit us, I asked the worship leader Steve if he would allow Karen to play her violin in the service.  I play the cello on the praise team and I thought it would be great to add her violin to the mix.  Steve thought so too and was excited to plan music for that week. Fall Fishing

  Here we have Kristin Armstrong with a 29.5 inch Walleye; the biggest one she has ever caught.  Walleye are beautiful fish and folks have been catching some big ones on Indian Lake.  Just yesterday morning, September 17th, 2023, three men in one boat caught roughly 70 walleyes.  They have fished Indian Lake many years so know where to go to find the fish this time of year.  But it still amazes me how many folks catch and the big sizes in this lake.  The fish population has definitely benefited from 3 years with few if any sportsmen in the area because of covid.  Fishing in the fall also has the benefit of no bugs and pretty nice weather.  Kristin caught this fish on a bit of a cold, blustery day and you see she is dressed for cold weather.  But we are still getting a few weeks now of temps with highs in the 70's and lows in the 40's.  More folks should consider fall fishing.  You just need to know that the fish are a little deeper in the 30 foot range and it's not hard to
