The Border is Opening

We hoped and we prayed, but we didn't know for sure if it would happen this year.  Sure enough, we have received word that the Canadian border is now opening on August 9th to those Americans who are fully vaccinated no less than 14 days before crossing the border.

We have notified all our guests to let them know in case there are some who are able to come on a moments notice.

We also have posted on our website the new rate changes for this year.  Cabins 1 through 7 will be $380/person plus tax and the waterfront cabins 8 and 9 will be $390/person plus tax.

Here is some info you will need in order to cross the border.  I hope you find it helpful.

I have checked with the Canadian border to find out exactly what will be required of each person crossing the border and this is what I am told.

1.  Each person will need to provide proof from a doctor that they are fully vaccinated at least 14 days before their arrival into Canada
2. You need to go to the app store on your cell phone and install the app called ArrivCan.
3.  Each person will need to get a Covid test that is negative no more than 3 days before they arrive at the border
4. They will randomly be handing out a covid test at the border that will need to be done on the day you arrive at camp.

I assume number 1 is not a problem for anyone.  We have done  numbers 2,3 and 4 when we came up here so we can help you with those.

Install the free ArrivCan app on your cell phone.  The group leader can be the one to do this.  You can add everyone in your group on this one app.  They just want to know ahead of time who is coming , what day you will arrive and approximately what time you will arrive.  They ask some other questions about covid as well.

With the covid PCR tests, they usually cannot promise you that the test results will be back before 3 days.  We found that the best place to get a free test taken is at Walgreens.  You go online to Walgreens.com/covid and schedule a test for less than three days before you come.  They have two different tests.  BE SURE YOU SIGN UP FOR THE RAPID ID TEST THAT HAS RESULTS WITHIN 24 HOURS.   This is a nucleic acid amplification test and is one of the acceptable rapid tests listed on the Canadian border website.

When you go to get the test, you drive up to the window and a pharmacist will hand you the test that you give yourself in the car while they are watching through the window.  It only takes a few minutes.  Then they email you the test results in less than 24 hours.

At the border they may give you another covid test to take when you get to camp.  The border agent I spoke to said not everyone will receive a covid test, but they will be handing them out randomly.  Don't panic if you are one to receive the test packet.  You are supposed to take it when you get to camp and we can walk you through it.

Everyone should bring a mask and hand sanitizer with you.

Also, I have attached a paper that the govt. wants us to send out to each person coming up to Canada.  I would ask the group leader to please print out a sheet for each person so it can be read and signed by each one.  Then just bring them along to camp with you.  They are for us.

Thank you for being such brave pioneers to push through all the red tape to come up and enjoy this beautiful place with us.  We sure look forward to seeing you all.

Also, you may have seen that the U.S. border is not opening till August 21.  But do not worry about getting back into the states.  I just called the U.S. border at Pigeon River and the agent said, "Every U.S. citizen will ALWAYS be allowed back into their country."

We need to tell you too that the fire danger up here right now is very severe, explosive.  We just spoke with the Ignace Conservation officer and he said there can be no outdoor cooking at all.  Even our grass is tinder dry and just a spark could set it off.  He also said you cannot smoke cigarettes on land or in your car or on a dock near land.  If you are out on a lake it is okay if you make sure you extinguish it in the water and throw the butt in the garbage.

If you have any questions about what I have written here, please do not hesitate to call or email us after 7 pm when our generator is turned on.  When our guests are here, the generator will be on 24/7 as usual.

Thanks so much,
Daryl
