Huge Congratulations to Joanna-- Winner of the Beargrease 120 Dogsled Race!!

Joanna won the Beargrease 120!! Hallelujah!!! Prayers answered. This has been on her bucket list for a long time and her dream finally came true. It has been her most difficult race and often fraught with one crazy disaster after another which also caused her to never finish with all 8 dogs. This year everything came together for her. This is her rendition of the race:

First place at the 2023 Beargrease mid distance race! Wow, finally had a BG with no issues after all these years... 😉 The trail was super fast, it was super cold and the dogs were super amazing!!! Loved finally getting to experience that "magic carpet ride" with my team at this race!!! Also was deeply honored to be awarded the Best Cared for Team Award from the vets... this goes to my dad as much as me as does the win... couldn't do this without all his help and support that is for sure!!! Trail grooming, helping train the 16 dog team, feeding dogs for me when I am at work... he does it all!! Huge thank you Dad for being so amazing and my #1 supporter!!! Also to my mom who used to be my handler but now stays home to feed the remaining dogs and puppies:) They are pretty awesome!! Thank you to my amazing team,, main leader Tamar age 8, fast hard driving girl that acts more like a dog half her age! Her daughter and my other main leader Nikita age 7, loping driving hard always she is a rockstar! So proud of these two amazing leaders they run their hearts out! Rounding out the rest of the team was Viper and Laska in point. Laska, age 4, is another main leader and Viper is a very impressive 2 yr old though barked constantly at both checkpoints at everyone and everything:) Two yearlings Jedi and Jaylah, first race for them both and they did super! Handled all the passing and people great!!! Wheel dogs powerhouses 4 yr old Kodiak and 5 yr old mostly blind Thor... Thor is a fast moving tank at 70 lbs or more, he can trot as fast as the others lope though he lopes effortlessly too... runs close to Kodiak at night when its harder for him to see... these two are awesome!! So fun to be flying up the hills!! We had a beautiful first leg run and were in second place by about 5 min. behind Nick Turman after the first leg... Fast 2nd leg put us 30 min. ahead of 2nd place, took it easy on the 3rd leg to finish almost an hour ahead of second place... we got in to Trestle Inn just before 4 a.m. earliest finish there ever by an hour:) Huge thank you to Bucky N Emily Tippet for helping us out at the start!!!
